San Marcos Computers provides in-home remote hack and computer security assistance in San Marcos, TX and surrounding Central Texas communities. We come to your home to help investigate suspected remote access, computer scams, suspicious software, and other computer security concerns.
This is a 2-hour in-home service for $200 designed for situations that require more time and hands-on security assistance.
Think Someone Has Remote Access to Your Computer?
Remote-access scams are designed to convince people that their computer has a serious problem and that they need immediate technical assistance. The scammer may ask you to install remote-access software, provide a code, or allow them to control your computer.
If you believe you allowed someone suspicious to access your computer, don't continue communicating with them. Do not provide additional passwords, financial information, verification codes, or other sensitive information.
We can come to your home and help evaluate the computer and determine what needs to be done to secure it.
Signs You May Have Been Scammed
Contact us if you are concerned about situations such as:
- Someone claiming to be Microsoft or another technology company contacted you unexpectedly
- You were told your computer was infected or compromised
- You were instructed to install remote-access software
- You gave someone remote access to your computer
- You see unfamiliar remote-access software on the computer
- You notice unfamiliar programs or applications
- You are concerned someone may have changed computer settings
- You received suspicious pop-ups or security warnings
- You are concerned that someone may still have access to your computer
What We Can Do During the Home Visit
During the appointment, we can examine the computer and investigate common signs of unauthorized remote access or suspicious software.
Depending on what we find, we may:
- Look for unfamiliar remote-access applications
- Check for suspicious software
- Review relevant computer settings
- Remove unauthorized or suspicious software when appropriate
- Help secure the computer
- Review security settings
- Help determine whether additional computer repair is necessary
- Explain what we find and what additional steps may be appropriate
Remote Access Software
Programs such as remote desktop and remote-support applications can have legitimate uses. The presence of remote-access software does not automatically mean that your computer has been hacked.
However, if someone unexpectedly instructed you to install remote-access software or gave you instructions for allowing them to control your computer, it is reasonable to have the computer evaluated if you are concerned about what happened.
Protect Your Accounts
If you believe a scammer had access to your computer or saw passwords or other sensitive information, securing the computer is only one part of the process.
You may also need to change passwords, contact your financial institutions, monitor accounts, or take other security precautions. If financial information or identity information was provided to a suspected scammer, contact the appropriate financial institution or authorities as soon as possible.
We can help with the computer-security portion of the problem, but we cannot investigate financial accounts, reverse fraudulent transactions, or determine whether a financial account has been compromised.

An in-home appointment allows us to work directly with the computer you are concerned about and, when appropriate, see the equipment and setup involved.
